SURS has been made aware of a recently published article reporting that SURS made a campaign contribution to a candidate for state representative. The article is inaccurate. SURS does not make political contributions.
Statements referencing the State Universities Retirement System contained in an article in the East Central Reporter for the week of March 6-12, 2016, are inaccurate and misleading. The State Universities Retirement System has never “given” to Mr. Jim Acklin or his campaign.
|Feb-26-16||SURS Chairperson Appointed||
On February 26, 2016, Gov. Bruce Rauner announced the appointment of Tom Cross to head the Illinois Board of Higher Education. According to the Illinois Pension Code, Cross will also serve as chairperson of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees.

The State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (SURS) requests proposals from qualified Proxy Service Providers (Responders) to provide fiduciary proxy advisory and voting services. SURS is issuing the RFP for due diligence purposes, to ensure its receipt of quality services at cost-effective, market pricing.
Pursuant to SURS right to change the schedule as written in the RFP for Proxy Service Providers, answers to inquiries posed prior to the March 15, 2016 deadline will be posted on the SURS website and sent to responders no later than April 4, 2016.
|Feb-11-16||SURS Chairperson to Step Down||
Lindsay Anderson, current chairperson of the State Universities Retirement System’s (SURS) Board of Trustees, will step down effective Feb. 19, 2016, to accept a position with the University of Illinois.
Anderson has led the SURS board as well as the Illinois Board of Higher Education since being appointed by then-Governor Pat Quinn on June 3, 2013. She also chairs the SURS Board Governance, Legal and Legislative and Executive Committees.

SURS is offering a spring post-retirement seminar for Traditional and Portable Plan annuitants. This seminar will provide valuable information on survivor assistance, benefit statements, navigating the member website, community and more. The University of Illinois Extension will also be on site presenting an enjoyable and informative session on memory and aging.

|Jan-20-16||Proof-of-Insurance Tax Forms Being Sent to Members||
The Affordable Care Act requires issuers of insurance and some employers to send Forms 1095-B and 1095-C to members. When filing taxes in 2016, most people will have to report to the federal government whether they, along with their tax dependents, had medical insurance coverage during the previous year. The law stipulates that beginning in tax year 2015, people who don't have at least a minimal level of coverage could have to pay a fine to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
